Poetry Revolution
Vive Milton! Join us on Bastille Day for a reading of works by Blake, Coleridge, Wordsworth and other Romantic poets inspired by the French Revolution.
Milton was also a direct influence on Romantic poetry as well as the French Revolution through his radical republican pamphlets. His defence of regicide and the rights of the people against tyrannical monarchs provided an ideological framework for the revolutionaries, while his writings on press freedom were actively translated and adapted to dismantle French censorship.
This event is free, with no requirement to book: just turn up to enjoy an evening of French flavours and some liberté, égalité and fraternité.
