"Ever since its inception, the Milton Cottage Trust has been engaged in conserving this exceptional building in memory of one of our country’s greatest poets and political thinkers. The Cottage with its library and exhibits attracts visitors from all over the world, and the traditional English garden is planted with shrubs and flowers which Milton would have known and loved in his day. The responsibility of maintaining a Grade I listed building is not however a light one. With only slim financial reserves the trustees depend critically on voluntary donations if the fabric of the Cottage is to be kept in sound condition. Your gift to us can make a real difference. I do hope that the special charm, as well as the historic significance of this place, will inspire you to help us generously."
The Friends are the fund-raising arm of the Milton Cottage Trust, which runs the Cottage and Museum. Friends' subscriptions provide funds for the ongoing operation and maintenance of the cottage and museum. Some of the Friends' fund-raising initiatives provide money for additional purposes such as refurbishing the building, or expanding the collection. The fund-raising appeal 'Paradise Maintained' is for one-off contributions towards the conservation of the fabric of the building. This campaign was begun in the 400th anniversary year and will continue beyond that time. Contributors towards this appeal are listed in The Book of Names, which is kept in the cottage.
